Welcome!
My name is Amy! I was born in Sydney, Australia but I am not an Australian citizen because both of my parents are Thai. We moved back to Bangkok, Thailand when I was 2 years old, so I considered myself fully Thai.
In 2011, I came to Canada alone at the age of 16 to experience the Canadian classroom. I lived in Parksville, BC for a month and visited Victoria, Vancouver, and Tofino. When I went back home to Thailand, it was no longer fun being in school from 7-5 Mon-Fri and then from 8-6 Sat-Sun at the cram school. I just couldn’t help falling in love with the Canadian education system, especially the freedom to do extracurricular school activities. Fortunately, my parents believe that education is an investment, so I had the opportunity to come back to Canada again and study in Victoria that same year!
I still can’t believe that I have been in Victoria for 10 years now. Similar to my parents, as they met in Australia, I also met my Thai boyfriend here at UVic. I just applied for Canadian citizenship in the summer. Hopefully, I will get it soon and can finally sponsor my family to be here with me!
